Leaving on a Thursday morning in mid June we began our hitch
hiking form Düsseldorf with plans to arrive in Denmark later that evening or
early Friday morning. Unfortunately we found ourselves a little off track on
Thursday evening and ended up in North West Germany, at the end of a lonely
highway. We were blessed however by a hospitable German family who took us in
for the evening and gave us a warm place to sleep and who were kind enough to
bring us to the highway to continue our trip on Friday morning.
Arriving in Copenhagen by late afternoon, we shared dinner
with our hosts and then headed into Denmark to get a sense and feel for the
city.

Saturday was spent exploring Copenhagen.
Exploring Freetown Christiania-- a self governing, hippie community with about 850 residence, covering about 84 acres. Christiania is a really unique place and is definitely a place you should not miss if you find yourself in Copenhagen.
Sunday was spent in Malmö, Sweden, a small city about 45
kilometers away from Copenhagen. Of course we hitch hiked there and back to
Copenhagen at the end of the day. We had quite an interesting hitching experience…the same person who gave us a ride into Malmö also took us back to Copenhagen at the end of the day as he happened to be driving by when we began to hitch our way back.
Monday morning we began our journey back to Düsseldorf. After 10 rides, 17 hours and 864 kilometers we were finally home safe and sound—completely exhausted and ready for some much needed shut eye.
